The Five Year Engagement

I like movies. I like Jason Segel (even moreso after his part in the fantastic new Muppets movie).

In April, 2012, "The Five-Year Engagement" is set to be released, starring Segel, Emily Blunt and Chris Pratt (aka: "Andy" from "Parks and Rec").

From what I gather, the film charts the relationship of a couple who become engaged, only to have their engagement prolonged, several times, by unexpected bumps in the road.

Check out the trailer after the jump:

It looks funny and has a killer cast.

But that isn't what strikes me the most. My wife, Kim, pointed out that they are using a very innovative "hype" technique.

To promote this film, they have created a "wedding blog," focusing on the engaged characters from the film. The blog treats the characters and the plot as if it is a real-life scenario that is taking place.

Check out "Tom & Violet's Wedding Blog" HERE.

They also have developed a Facebook page for the movie that allows "fans" to interact with the imaginary couple.

It really is a clever and unique marketing campaign, don't you think?

So are you interested in seeing this movie?

  1. I am going to LOVE this movie! As if I need to fall anymore in love with Emily Blunt. Sigh. Great tip on the way they're marketing this.

  3. Another interesting use of transmedia. It's cool because the audience will already know the characters before they enter the theater, which will no doubt improve the experience. Not just good marketing...good storytelling! That is, if they keep the blog quality high.

  4. Good point on the blog quality. From what I've seen, they may be slipping. :)
